To debug your sendmail problem, run it on verbose mode.

/usr/lib/sendmail -v email@domain.com
test line
Type Control-D to end

This will give you a trace of what sendmail is doing with your email.

If your server can resolve the outside domains right, then it most likely a firewall blocking issue.
